"Painterly physicality, rhythm, structure, and color, embody an emotional depth in rita's paintings that is worth seeing."

 - jay noble, artist, professor of art, executive director of mt. gretna school of art

"AS A FELLOW ARTIST, RITA'S WORK INSPIRES MINE- SHE TRULY STrIKES A CHORD WITH THOSE WHO TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK DEEP INTO HER PAINTINGS. THE BEAUTY OF CHAOS AND COLOR, LOVE AND LIGHT- I AM SO PROUD TO OWN THREE OF HER PIECES - THEY ARE MY FAVORITE ADDITION TO OUR ART COLLECTION."

- KRIS MAE WEISS, PHOTOGRAPHER, NYC

"RITA PAINTS WITH AN INTELLIGENT JOYFULNESS, WHICH IS AT ONCE PLAYFUL AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING. IN HER INTERPRETATIONS OF OUR CITY, I SEE THE WORLD THE WAY SHE DOES, AND FOR THAT, I AM SO GRATEFUL"

- SUSAN MCDANIEL, STYLIST AND FIBER ARTIST

"AS RITA EMERGES AS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED ARTISTS IN OUR COMMUNITY, IT TAKES ME BACK TO MY EARLIER DAYS AS AN ARTIST. A FULL BLOWN POWERHOUSE OF CREATIVITY AND PASSION, SHE BRINGS IT ON!!"

- PETER DANKO, FURNITURE DESIGNER, ARTIST

I believe that at some point, making art becomes all about the aesthetic, subconscious knowledge of the mind. It is necessary to diligently study all aspects of art, to train the eye to understand the core design aspects of the piece without much conscious thought. This way upon painting, the eye is able to recognize and react to everything the hand is doing, and allow the artist’s personal experiences, conceptual inspirations to be the drive behind the work. By this I mean that I could not begin to explain what is going through my head while I am engulfed in a painting. Sometimes I deliberately choose cool colors to go against warm ones, but most often the painting just seems to materialize in front of me; it comes together because of the influence of things I have read, as well as personal experience and the help of my peers and professors.

Articles

“Rita King’s painting “Ellicott City, MD” clearly distinguished itself with scale and ambition. The bold vibrancy and confident execution of this painting dominated the room and made it the obvious selection for juror’s choice award.”
